HAVlife™ Foundation Awards Grant to Lancaster Area Youth to help “Prevent Lost Potential™”

March 21 2016

LANCASTER, WI – The Lancaster Community School District has received a $2,500 grant from the HAVlife™ Foundation. Funds will be used to award individual scholarships to youth between ages 10-15 in support of participation in athletics, music and the arts.

HAVlife Foundation, a non-profit organization, has roots in the Davenport, IA, area, and recently expanded their mission to include the Tri-State area, including Southwest Wisconsin. HAVlife’s mission is: Preventing Lost Potential™, and they fulfill this mission by working with schools and other youth organizations to help fund activities for youth ages 10 to 15 that are related to arts, music and athletics..

“HAVlife™ helps kids and families who work hard, but may have to pass on potentially life changing opportunities for the lack of simple funding,” said Julie Hoffmann, HAVlife Tri-States board member.  “Family budgets often run short and costs for things like music lessons, athletic camps, and participation fees can’t be a priority for some families. HAVlife™ works to fund activities like these so that all youth can experience life to the fullest.”

Julie became involved with HAVlife™ because their mission really resonated with her. Her grandson, Evan Hauk, a Cassville resident who attended school in Lancaster, died tragically in the summer of 2011, at the age of 13. Having experienced such a tragic loss, Julie truly understood the depth of lost potential. Embracing HAVlife’s mission really made sense as the Foundation helps kids who were just like Evan. “HAVLife gives kids hope. It gives me hope. Good things can happen when you connect people with a need with people on a mission to help them,” said Julie.

The HAVlife Tri-States Board of Directors, working with education and community leadership, invest grants to help young at-risk youth who may not be able to afford potentially life changing opportunities and activities. This is the first award to the Lancaster School District from the HAVlife™ Foundation.

“We are thrilled to have HAVlife reach out to the Lancaster Community.  We believe that when kids miss opportunities, we all lose. The additional funding can help youth turn lost potential into long-term achievement,” said Mark Uppena, principal at the Lancaster Middle School. “Sometimes the cost to participate in activities can keep a child from stretching and soaring. We are very grateful that HAVlife is working to fund the activities that often fall through the cracks.”

HAVlife grants are made possible through fundraising efforts and the generosity of the people in the Tri-States. On Thursday, April 7, 2016, HAVlife Tri-States is planning their second annual fundraiser in Dubuque, a Martini Shake-off! ™ This is a high-energy, community fundraising event from 5:30 – 9 p.m. at the Diamond Jo Casino located in the Port of Dubuque. Dozens of martini recipes will be prepared by up to 12 local establishments. Awards will be given in several “Best Martini” categories. The public will also be voting on a “People’s Choice” award. Tickets for the event can be purchased at www.havlife.org.

During the event, HAVlife™ Tri-States will award their first grant to the Lancaster Community Schools.

Celebrations like the Martini Shake Off!™  make it possible for HAVlife Tri-States to fund athletic programs, music opportunities and other extra-curricular activities for students in the Tri-State area to prevent lost potential. In the past seven years, HAVlife™ has already raised and granted more than $625,000 in Eastern Iowa , Western Illinois, and the Tri-States, and the organization is excited to be able to bring their mission of youth service to Lancaster.

HAVlife™ was established in 2007 by Dubuque native Mike Vondran, in honor of his son Hunter Aaron Vondran, who passed away at the young age of 13 due to injuries sustained in a tragic accident. The organization serves to prevent lost potential of youth through granting of participation scholarships in the areas of music, arts and athletic programs for 10-15 year old at-risk youth in local schools and community. To date the foundation has raised and granted over $625,000. For more information visit www.havlife.org
