2014 Martini Shake Off! Raises $132,000

More than 1,600 people were in attendance at last week’s 2014 Martini Shake Off™, presented by Bush Construction. The event was a fundraiser for the HAVlife Foundation™, which works towards preventing lost potential in today’s youth.

At this year’s event, the 2014 spring grants were named, which totaled $100,000. One hundred percent of all dollars raised will stay in our community.

  • Bettendorf Schools Foundation - $11,000 to prevent lost potential of youth ages 10-15 (grades 5 through 10) by funding support of participation in athletics, music and the arts.
  • Opportunity Kicks - $6,000 to make competitive soccer available to talented athletes who, otherwise, would not have the opportunity to participate in the sport due to financial restraints.
  •  Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley - $5,000 to create an engagement and activity grant program within their organization that will provide grants to littles interested in participating in sports, arts or music initiatives.
  • Legends of Iowa Football Camp - $7,500 toward scholarships for the Quad Cities football camp in June run by 450 former Hawkeye football players who donate their time to bring joy and valuable life skills to the youth.
  • Davenport Community Schools - $11,000 to focus on children grades 6 through 8 who have promise and desire in athletics, music or fine arts who have a financial need to further enhance their skills.
  • River Music Experience (RME) - $10,000 to assist with “Rock Camp”, private music lessons and community outreach education.
  • • St. Ambrose University Athletic Outreach Program - $5,000 to provide sports clinics and camp opportunities to Quad City area youths who would not be able to participate due to financial and family hardships.
  • Scott County Catholic Schools- Band Department - $5,000 to help fund the demand of needed musical instruments.
  • East Moline Silvis Soccer Club - $2,250 for opportunities for at risk youth via a new HAVlife™ scholarship program.
  •  Boys and Girls Club of Mississippi Valley - $500 to support youth entry fees for running events in the Quad Cities throughout the year. 
  • East Moline School Foundation - $7,500 - to focus on children grades 6 through 8 who have promise and desire in athletics, music or fine arts who have a financial need to further enhance their skills.
  • Family Resources - $2,500 – to fund youth within the residential programs to participate with the Iowa / Illinois Athletic Association of organized team sports.
  • Metro Youth Program - $7,500 to enhance youth creativity, leadership and academic success by participating in structured drumming and synchronized marching activities.
  • Putnam Xpress Yourself Camp - $2,500 to support scholarships to camp.
  • Ultimate Choice - $2,500 to provide opportunities for youth to participate in competitive basketball while engaging with resources to support academics achievements and personal leadership.
  • Youth Sports program - $10,000 to support youth ages 10 to 15 to participate in competitive football and provide funds for safe helmet equipment.
  • Colts - $4250 to fund music participation scholarships for the drum and bugle program.

Dave Parochetti of Parochetti Enterprises & Taco Bell, Tamara Wendt of Tamara Went Designs and Performance Food Service were also presented with recognition awards for their ongoing support and commitment to the HAVlife Foundation™.

In addition to the funding grants that were awarded, 25 establishments entered martinis to win this year’s awards. After filling nearly 26,000 mini martini glasses, the results are in!

• Best Martini Presentation: Jumer’s Casino & Hotel
• Best Classic Martini: Barmuda Triangle (Pints, Van’s Pizza, Pub & Grill, Harrington’s Pub)
• Best Fruit Martini: Granite City food & brewery
• Best Dessert Martini: The Phoenix
• Bartender’s Choice: Kilkenny’s / Carriage Haus

Because of the continued success of this event, plans have already begun for the 2015 Martini Shake Off™. The next scheduled HAVlife™ fundraiser will be the HAVlife™ Legendary Affair, scheduled for June 13, 2014, to be held at Jumer’s Hotel & Casino.
